    Servis Rainwave 1100, M991
Problem with the spin cycle. It has intermittently been not spinning for a while, often with loads that could be imbalanced, but sometimes with loads that should cause no problem. It now will not spin at all. It just sloshes through the spin cycle at low revs and sometimes not all the water drains away. The machine is 5.5 years old now and was temperamental from about year 2.

Part of the overall problem is that this built in machine is very hard to access (only 1mm clearance under the worktop and, so far, impossible to shift out even 1mm). I am not even sure where the appliance plug is (it’s well hidden, which is common with all the other built in appliances!)
What I have done so far:
    1. check the filter and cleaned it – there was almost nothing in there.
    2. check some of the pipes for clogging, in case this was why the water would not drain. One bendy pipe, connected to just under the sink plug, before the U bend, was a bit grimy but didn’t seem to be clogged – from the part I could see/access. (I’m not sure if this is the drainage pipe for the machine. There is another pipe that enters the main water pipe, which is connected to the U Bends from the 2 sinks above it, but this is almost entirely out of view. This 2nd pipe has a loop that is deliberately held about 40mm above the main waste pipe. I also took apart all the pipes and U-bends under the sink to see if there was a blockage here (though I’m not sure it would have a knock on effect on the washing machine.)
    3. I tried the machine again, (with a just few old tea towels – would not have thought this load would cause a spin problem) and it still did not spin.

So, the questions I have are

    1. From what I have read after a quick search here, it appears it would be the module (but I don’t want to second guess any answers). Is this the most likely cause?
    2. How easy is it to fix myself? And a second part of the DIY option is how would I go about getting the machine out from its incredibly tight fit? Any hints?
    3. How much would a new module roughly be?
    4. How much would an engineer cost (guidance only, central London, near Elephant & Castle)? I have no idea whether it should be £20 call out and £20 per hour or £80 call out and £80 per hour. And how much time should I budget for?
    5. Is there anything else it could be? Is there anything else I could easily do to identify (or fix) the problem?
    6. And, finally, is it just easier to get a new machine. From reading stuff on here it seems that Servis are to be avoided (which makes sense, since it was the choice of the penny pinching developers who built my flat). I will spend some time looking through other posts on recommendations, but a couple of words on brands to go for would be useful (combined washer dryer, due to space limitations, although to be honest I almost never use the dryer). Bosch and Seimens seem to get good press here. Zanussi? I wouldn’t want to spend a small fortune, but it looks like you have to spend around £600, I could bite the bullet and spend that.
    7. I’ve seen from other thread that small black marks on clothing could indicate a problem with the bearings. This happened a couple of times within the first 2 months of use, (i.e. <5 years ago). Not sure how this would impact everything else.

Thanks a lot for any help and suggestions.

This would be a module problem. When load in machine is unbalanced module senses different loading on motor. This sometimes can be over sensitive causing no spin action also make sure pressure chamber is clean Mark
