At the back of my washing machine machine, at the top, near the hot&cold inlet, there is a small (size of 50p) oulet encased in rubber, looks like an airvent. Whenever I use the machine now water pours out now. Anyone know what this outlet is for and why the water is pouring out after a few minutes into the wash cycle. Any suggestions welcomed.

This is an overflow. Does the water come out as the machine starts to fill or after a minute or so, if the machine overfills it chucks it out this hole!

This can also be caused by a blockage in the soap dispensor hose which can br blocked by soap powder or if youve got small kids toys ect.

This old servis appliance also suffered from the pressure switch air bottle hose from blocking, its situated at the rear of the appliance which will cause overfilling.
I seem to remember the pipe in question thats throwing the water out relies on the back panel being fitted correctly to keep the top of the pipe in place with the dispensor ….be careful when reassembling or it’ll flood.

ps this is not an overflow but is an airvent to allow the displaced air from the tub to exit when and as the water fills it.
