ParticipantHi everyone. I’ve got a medium sized appliance shop in north Manchester and deal in a few different domestic appiance brands. When Servis ceased trading recently i was informed by retra i would have to fix or offer a refund for Servis appliances that fail within the 12 month guarantee period. As you are no doubt aware the calls have started to arrive/flood in and this is proving to be very costly.Has anyone else suffered the same fate and can anyone please offer any helpful advice?

Moved this to General Trade in the hope that it will get a response. I am thankfully untouched by this problem but I would be interested in any answers.

I, like Jim, have not been caught with this.
The law does state that ultimately the retailer is responsible for the warranty.
The only advice I would give is..
When the appliance breaks down I would make a judgement on fixing it or replacing it depending on how long the warranty has to run. Fixing a 2 month old Servis appliance would not be an option as it will probably break again within the next 10 months however if it had a month to run then I would probably go for the repair and keep my fingers crossed.Any appliances you replace I would break up and use the spares to try and recoup your losses.
Now I know someone is going to post and contradict me on the length of time the retailer is responsible with the “fit for purpose” brigade on the bandwagon but reality is that most consumers don`t know about this or cannot be bothered with the hassle of persuing it.
As i said before , luckily I have not been caught with this but if i were then that`s the track i would take.November 26, 2008 at 1:31 pm #268891electrofix
