    Hi,
My Sharp Microwave model R345 is not working. We replaced the fuse on the plug and no difference and i check the fuse continuity and the fuse is OK on the plug, as there is continuity.

However i unplugged from the socket and opened up the appliance and could not see any burnt mark or evidence of the failure, however there was another fuse which checked by the multimeter and there is no continuity, so i temporarily placed foiled wrapped on the internal fuse and the microwave is working again.

But this is temporary, as i need to get it fixed, so what could be the problem.

Any ideas or help will be much appreciated.

    Thanks Again

    Handyman.

Foil wrapping on a fuse eh? A really dangerous bodge from the outset and I would suggest you heed my warning of the imminent dangers of messing inside microwave ovens. The extreme high voltages stored within the capacitor (close by that fuse you messed around with), even when unplugged can and will kill you! 😯

You celebrated your 42nd birthday last month and I’m sure you want to know what life is like at 43? So, with that thought in mind, fuses should always be replaced like for like. :rolls:

    Thank you for your reply.

Foil wrapping was a temporary to test the microwave to check if the fuse is gone, however i tested the fuse is working and microwave was working.

I check with Multimeter, but i make sure the power is disconnected and wait a few minute to discharge any other power left.

I am replacing the fuse like for like.

By the way i was in the trade in Plumbing craft 603/1, but i do not do it anymore due to health reason and knees are knackered, as i can not not kneel down on the floor long time.

However i wanted to know what could of gone wrong in the microwave for the fuse to blow, so i wanted to check the components of the microwave from the Mulitmeter and i will only make a decision or check if i am confident and competent to do so, as i do not want to kill myself or others, as safety is my first priorty.

Like i said if i am not capable then , i would not touch it 🙂
