ModeratorA mate of mine has this machine in one of his student let’s in Liverpool. Around three years old and has had one door seal changed. It is now leaking again from the door seal. Not sure if it distorted or not, waiting for pics. I’m guessing it’s a Vestel, any known problems with door seal on these?

ModeratorDon’t have access to anything these days Dave. No complaints of drying issues but says the seal has gone out of shape along the bottom lip. Used to be a very common problem in chip shops or when lots of eczema creams were being used by customers.

ModeratorStill waiting for him to send me a picture which would confirm my suspicions. I remember Hotpoint used to supply what I called the ‘Chip shop gasket’. It was made of EPDM and was three or four times the cost of the standard one. It was a real pain when the 1850 model had a black rubber door seal, sticky black goo everywhere.
Still not getting email notifications either.:(March 25, 2024 at 6:31 pm #489938electrofix

ModeratorEven the EPDM seal was discontinued by Hotpoint. In cases were it was not possible to avoid using the creams such as young children with severe eczema or older incontinent adults I used to advise pre soaking any grease or cream contaminated clothing for 24 hours before rinsing and washing. This did appear to help reduce the problem in most cases. I even had one that I eventually identified as being caused by the customers daughter using excessive amounts of fake tan which she applied with body oils. This then contaminated her bedding. You could even see the faint colour of the tanning powder on the seal.
