The grill element on this (lux) cooker is a dual type. The inside bit is 1800w and glows as you would expect. However, the outer bit is only 800w and, although it gets hot, does not glow.

Surely a grill can only work with radiant heat?

I have replaced the element, but, as I suspected, it made no diffrerence.

    any thoughts?

Perfectly normal Bob, it’s just that the outer isn’t an infra-red grill whereas the inner is.

    Very common on non-UK ovens.

they used to put a lable inside the grill that said ” the outer will not glow” to stop wasted calls in gurantee
