I sometimes get asked to repair electric showers. Usually the faults are easy enough to diagnose but spares can be difficult to source. I was therefore quite pleased when I discovered the Shower Doctor website. You can get advice on a forum then order parts online, thats the theory anyway :rolls: Last week I went to look at an all singing, all dancing Mira Advance shower. It was heating for a few seconds then the water would go cold and the “service” light would come on. I checked continuity of the heater elements and tried running it with the shower head removed, in case that was getting blocked. There was no obvious cause for the problem but reading previous threads on the forum it sounded like it must be the relay board. I therefore put a question on the forum asking if they agreed with this diagnosis. After a couple of days I had not received a reply so I ordered the relay board anyway (£73 inc. delivery) but put a note in the order referring to my forum post and asking them to not send the board if they don’t agree with my diagnosis. The board arrived on Tuesday and I went straight round to the customer to fit it. I don’t think they have any other shower or bath and the weather is hot at the moment so they do need it fixed urgently. The new board did not cure the problem and I now see on their terms & conditions that parts cannot be returned if they have been fitted. I have posted 4 times on the thread and still had no reply.
I have had to tell the customer that I can’t do the repair as I’m unwilling to gamble any more of my money on parts that may not cure the fault. 🙁

    Re: Shower Doctor Website

Oh a sad ending 🙁 its a shame really theres got to be money in showers i too am always getting asked to repair them, 10 out of 10 for sticking your neck out and trying, sometimes youv just got to have a go.

Hey would it be fair to advice customer that its uneconomical in most cases as the parts are diffucult and expensive to obtain and maybe source a good shower thats easy to fit and at a good trade price, i fitted my own with no problems, im assuming the regs are still the same as its a fixed appliance, without much thought an rcd tester would probably be advisable and testing for fault current path between phase to earth.

LETS GANG UP AND GO GET THE SHOWER DOCTOR 😈
