Rcently I bought a Siemens microwave/combination oven, model HB84E562B. When used as a fan oven food is taking much longer to cook than in my 30-yr old conventional oven, so I checked the oven temperature at various settings.
From about 160degC up to 250C the actual oven temperature is 20degC lower than the set temperature, so I arranged for a service visit from Siemens.
With the oven set to 200degC the engineer used a probe and digital thermometer and measured it as cycling between 185degC and 191C – better than my measurement, but not 200C. He stated that this was was within specification.
I complained to the Siemens office that recipes don’t work!
They replied (after a reminder) that
“your appliance is working in accordance with the manufacturer’s specification” and
“all our ovens are tested in accordance with the EN60330 and EN60335 European specifications” and
“we will not be investigating this matter further”.
Googling showed that EN60335 is a safety spec for household appliances; I could find no reference to EN60330.
Before I get back to Siemens I’d appreciate your view of the discrepancy between the set and actual temperatures.
Can you tell me what the specification for temperature setting for a fan assisted Siemens oven is?
Do other brands have similar specs?
What is EN60330 about? Has it anything to do with temperature control?
Thanks
Millie
