Never had any problem with the dishwasher during the 5+ years it’s been used.

It started by me pressing the start button on the dishwasher one day, I noticed that the dishwasher was just making a humming sound and nothing really happened. I opened the lid to check if something was wrong and I saw a lot of gray/dirty water that was filled up in the bottom of the dishwasher.

What first comes to my mind was that the filter/drainage hose was clogged, so I took out the filters from the bottom of the machine and cleaned them. Pressed start button and nothing happened, just made a humming sound. I took a bowl and started removing the water by hand so I could get a better look and see if there was something stuck or clogged in the outlet hole. There was some rice and food particles in there which I removed.

After this the machine started pumping out water as it should. If I open the lid of the machine and throws 1 L of water in there by hand and then starts it, the pump drains it immediately with no problems at all.

So here is my real problem: When I press the start button, the pump is going on forever, its pumping the machine compeltely dry and keeps pumping and pumping.

Even if I open the lid while its pumping it keeps on pumping! And I can also if I press the start button while the lid is open, the pump starts. So I can start/stop the pump with the lid open!

Also worth mentioning is that after I cleaned all the filters I tried to blow in the drainage hose to see if air was passing through it easily, I realized that no air flows through the hose when I blow in it. And man I do blow hard! But the water is flooding out of the hose with ease when the pump is going, so I guess its a one way valve somewhere that prevents me from blowing in air?

The plastic base under the machine is flooded and the anti-flood switch has been automatically activated. You’ve got an internal leak somewhere!

Thank you for the fast reply. What blows my mind is that the drainage hose/hole got clogged exactly at the same time as the internal leak happened?

Anyway, is this what I should try next (open the left panel and check the flood switches)? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DE7oYA5l3EQ

Oh dear another YouTube video…… 😕

No my friend, not the same machine at all. Power unplugged. Lay it on its back (not front or sides but on its back!) Remove metal base panel and ALL will be revealed. 😀

Okay, I still have the machine standing and removed a panel and what I can see from there is that the bottom metal pan is completely dry, there is no water there. But when I dragged the whole diswasher out of the bench, there was some water dripping on the floor. Maybe 1 dl.

I can see a pretty big plastic tank that is completely filled up with water to the top.

Hmm, with some closer look I can see that while I’m tilting the machine, the bottom metal pan is in fact filled with water… Also when I tilt the machine I can hear a click, I suppose this is the overflowing switch going on/off?

But what is this big plastic water tank and should it be filled?

No surprises there then so far……. 😉

Are you perhaps looking at the salt container maybe?

Might be the salt container yes. The water is very clear and I think I can see some kind of filter in there.

I have removed both side panels and now I can see that here is about 0.5-1 dl more water in the pan. Clearly a leakage somewhere. I’ve been looking from the sides with a flashlight but I can’t find any leakage whatsoever.

I have problems with getting the bottom front panel off. It seems like the plastic bit is a part of a very big construction, is it really removable?

I could take a picture for you if its unclear what panel I am talking about. The panel has some kind of lock that you can screw on and there are arrows pointing upwards and downwards.

The BOTTOM metal panel not the front plastic plinth. You have to lay the machine on its back, as I mentioned earlier!

Oooh, alright. My mistake. Just had a big dinner and currently suffer from itis, so I will get back to you later today or tomorrow.

Thanks for the help so far!

Bottom metal panel is gone now and what I can see is that there are kalcium(?) spots on the outlet hose from the pump. But the hose itself and around its area seems to be dry.

This might be very stupid, but do you think that when the drainage hose was clogged, the water pressure that the pump built up was so big that water was slipping through from the black hose with the metal clamp that you can see in the pic? At least that would explain why those two problems occured right in such a close time frame to each other.

Its neither the pump nor the black rubber hose that’s leaking. Something above that is leaking and dripping down onto it!

But there is nothing above the pump that could be leaking. All there is above it is a huge molded plastic part.

Is my theory not even plausible?

Exactly so and prone to leaks where the stainless container meets the plastic tub base. Look for more water stains and that will lead to the source.

    No way!

I removed the water from the metal pan and wiped it dry, then I ran the dishwasher which was running just fine. When the dishwasher was done I laid it on its back and inspected the metal pan, it was completely dry. Not even a drip of water could be seen.
