Have a Siemens SL26231GB/12. It started to leave white residue over everything. I checked the salt level and topped it up but no change. Stopped using loose powder and started using tablets with salt and problem went away. However I have noticed over the last 2 months that no salt is being used even when hardness level is set to max.
I am assuming that something (Valve?) is malfunctioning. Can anybody shed any light on this please?

The regeneration unit is operated by a solenoid fitted down at the bottom of the left hand side of the fill/water level/resin chamber. It is possible that it has failed – a resistance check with a test meter will tell you. P/no 166875 if you don’t get a circuit through it.
Power off if you’re going in……
