Hi thanks for the reply its WM 12E46SGB-22 just disconnected the earth to the motor to fault find (naughty I know) and it runs fine. Could it be carbon build up?

Yes, dismantle and thoroughly clean the motor and replace the carbons.

Have now stripped and cleaned motor (very nice design can be totally stripped) and it still trips RCD and is (obviously) ok when earth disconnected, so do you think motor is u/s (short to earth), it looked all good when apart and runs fine when earth is off. I have a megger but not sure where to check motor, to avoid further damage. Thanks in anticipation

Using a Megger would never damage a motor. Usually the commutator is the problem so isolate and check that first (com segments to ground). Likewise the stator using the same method. Any reading less than 50 megohms will trip the RCD/MCB.

Hi stripped motor have checked commutator to ground (spindle) on m ohm scale and getting .01 and on multi-meter 200k range 26.0 this is on all segments looks like it is to ground to me but why all segs?

The motor is knackered then (technical trade terminology) 🙁

Thanks so much for your help, have looked on here and sent a request for new one are they re-buildable (new armature) as it looks a quality item and is easily stripped by a novice ie me!!

Not available in seperate parts (except the brushes). Has to be a costly complete motor otherwise. 🙁
