ParticipantGood morning wise ones,
My dishwasher does not appear to be heating the water; I have read thru the forums and think it’s possible that if this happens then the programme times will be wrong.
Have I got this right and could you tell me the part number I’d need for the element please?
(I understand that this is a “fun” job and will give me many hours of amusement 😆 )
The model no is SE25A561GB/35 and the production no is FD 8305.
Help gratefully received, thanks, windyone.August 26, 2008 at 9:22 pm #260567windyone

Help 😕
I’ve looked in the spares section and I can’t find an element matching the model number of my machine….does this mean that it is obsolete?

Element assembly is p/no 488856, spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk will get you one promptly enough. A mere trifle at £80 some, last time I checked.
Have you:
1/ Performed a resistance check on the heater?
2/ Checked the PCB for burnt out solder joints?
3/ Checked the hoses from the fill matrix and the state of the pressure switch? These fill up with muck and go and can cause underfilling. Not enough water and the pressure switch in the heater won’t activate.Stay safe, power off if investigating.

Thank you Penguin….
I was hoping you would be on here sometime.
We have taken the side off, and watched it fill up the fill matrix, and the pressure switches operate to let water in to the machine, which emptied the matrix. Can’t see any obvious burning on the pcb in the door.
BUT, the heater does not show a completely open circuit. Do you have any values for the resistance of a good working heater please?
Bit stumped at the moment… :rolls:

Thank you Gegsy…..
Now have to get some batteries for my AVO meter….only 2 miles to the nearest battery shop….will report back, thanks again, I owe you all a dring (thinks…this might be an expensive round).Oh, and one more question…does the same heater heat the water and the air for drying, or are there 2 separate heaters? Is the water heater in the pump?

OK….now more and more confused!
The heater element is showing 24.8ohms.
Filling is taking place, and the pcb looks clean. We have just found a thermostat/switch in the heater which when cold(at rest), with two sets of terminals which shows only one thru connection which shows a resistance of 40k ohms.
We think this might be faulty and not turning the heater on as it does not appear to be capable of carrying a current which will turn the heater on.
I will add a picture when my camera has charged up.It says NC (normally closed?) 85C
Typ 956
5600049491Could this be the culprit?
Is it cheap to buy one to check please?Curiouser and curiouser? Or :shake: clear as a bell to you?

Participantif the little switch you’re talking about is between the heater termibnals , this will only work when there is water flowing through the heater as its a safety pressure switch.
Hence , the no-heating fault that occurs with low water levels .August 30, 2008 at 8:42 pm #260576windyone
ParticipantRe: Siemens Extraklasse not heating/random programme times
Hi, the switch is not between the heater terminals, it is in the top of the heater housing. It has 4 (two pairs) of terminals, and is a temperature operated switch with the thermostat part protruding into the water in the heater housing.
The safety cutout part of this switch works fine, when placed in boiling water, but the other part we assume to turn on the heater element does not appear to be capable of carrying any current to live the element. The heater is filling up with water OK, and we will test the pressure switch tomorrow although it appears to be working OK. Enough water is getting in to the heater to operate.
Does that help any further? 😛

Hi
One pair is a thermostat the other pair is thermister, the thermister is in the temperature control circuit to pcb . The relay on pcb turns the heater on and off not the thermister. The thermister should show a resistance reading.

Aha….thanks Washman, that makes sense (having looked up the definition of thermistor) I understand why, if not how (or vice versa).
Will definitely test the pressure switch tomorrow morning then.
Although this is tedious having the machine apart all over the kitchen floor and having to wash up by hand (how medieval), I welcome the opportunity to learn something new every day, and today I have learned several, and reminded myself of the definition of sintered.
Thanks for your help and guidance, it is invaluable.August 31, 2008 at 4:19 pm #260579windyone

I think I hate this machine….we checked the pressure switch in the heater, ascertained that it was working, put it back and ran a programme to check voltage at the heater element etc….and b****r me, the blerdy thing worked….we ran some dishwasher cleaner thru it, and it worked again….now we’re going to try doing some dishes in it.
I know, loose/dirty connections or some such? But talk about all round the p***pot to find the handle!
Couldn’t have done it without you, and we may be back on here soon if whatever it was that fixed it doesn’t last…..
Any obvious suggestions.. 😈 -
