ParticipantFor the second time in a bit over a year I’ve lost the clock display on my Siemens HB86E560B 45cm combi oven.
The first time it failed I fitted a whole spare control panel from a scrap unit I had bought for parts (knowing I’d need something eventually!). Anyway, the spare panel has now failed in exactly the same way.
I’ve seen this is not an uncommon failure, but not found anyone who has worked out what is failing. Does anyone know what is the root cause of this failure? Would be nice to fix it at the parts level, instead of just banging in a new panel.

from what i can see on the diagram there are 2 boards. the relay board seems to supply the power to the display board
if the power supply on the rear board is the fault it may be fixable.

Thanks for the reply. The one which is fitted at the moment is intermittently working currently, I will strip it down and get the ‘scope out. When I saw it flicker on / off briefly just now it looked like a mechanical interaction with my hand on the controls.
I figure this may be a commonly seen issue as I have two board sets which exhibit the fault to varying degrees. Someone somewhere undoubtedly knows why these fail, but I guess most just end up with the board getting replaced.

not had one yet to try and diagnose but look for blown caps first as the one thing chips don’t like is ripple on the supply lines

@jimbof – I know it’s 18 months on, but I’d be really interested to know what your result is – because we’ve hit the same problem. The module is now out of production, and we’re looking at having to trash an otherwise perfectly functional microwave (that matches the oven beneath it) because a single LED display has given out…February 1, 2018 at 9:59 am #441431electrofix

when you say a single led display is that 1 digit of the display or the whole display is blank?
see link above for possible repairer for the board
