Hi everyone. I picked up a Siemens KG26V490GB Fridge Freezer second-hand this week, and it seemed to be working fine. Indeed it does work fine, with normally functioning fridge and freezer compartments/temperatures.

The problem is that the divider strip that separates the fridge and freezer is very very hot to the touch. I’ve spent the best part of today Googling stuff and reading up on the issue, so as far as I understand it there’s a coolant pipe routed there to warm the area and prevent condensation. However, it is running so hot that it’s too hot to leave your finger on for more than 5 seconds! I assume this isn’t right!

Various sources have lead me to think I have a cooling fan problem – blockage or failure – but the unit in question has no visible fan or air intakes!

The manual has no schematic for these things, so I have no way to work out how to access the fan and check if it’s simply blocked/fluffed up etc or actually failed.

What I’m aiming to do is establish as much as I can prior to calling in an engineer, as various things I have read suggest that a simple clean/unblock of the fan could well solve the issue. It’s just getting to the fan that’s proving difficult as there’s no fan at the back I can see!

So, if you’re familiar with this unit and can point me in the right direction, that would be great!

Also, I could do with knowing if it’s safe to leave it running like this too. It doesn’t seem to be heating anything else up – just the face of the divider. I asked the guy I got it from if he’d noticed any heat, and he hadn’t. I’m not really sure if it’s something he could’ve been living with un-noticed for a while, or if I could’ve caused it when moving the fridge.

For ref, it was moved upright in a van about 8-10 mins local journey and never went on it’s side etc.

All info greatly received, and sorry for the giant post!!

Likely to be a system fault, either refigerant shortage, system blockage or poor compressor performance.probably running constantly and the compressor will be very hot, refund best option.
Not a cheap fix either way.
