Participantbought it 5 years and 5 months ago for £350 brand new, yesterday it decided it would rather warm food then cool it, it warmed up the fridge and freezer compartments, the fridge section ended up warmer then the ambient temp of my home, the inside of the fridge was warm to the touch on the left side which I have never seen a fridge freezer do before, the outside of the fridge was still cold, light on, not making much sound but if you stuck your ear to the side it was making a low hum and you could hear liquid moving around. I ended up unplugging it before I went to bed as I didn’t trust it.
so does anyone know whats wrong with it? is it worth repairing or should I just get a new one and which new models would people recommend?
I am on a low income so don’t want to spend over £400 really I can push it up if needs be, but I do want it to last as long as possible, I will add that my home gets very cold in winter my bedroom often hits 12c and I wouldn’t be surprised if the kitchen hits colder then that, I notice things like Beko have an operating temp starting at 10c which seems a bit close to me, it will be for a 2 person household, it has to sit in a small sort of cutout in the wall so can’t be any wider then the one thats broken, it doesn’t have to be the same capacity I am open to getting one with a smaller freezer to discourage me from having so much frozen food in one as the siemens freezer was full and thats all ruined now.
Thanks in advance to anyone who replies, btw I live in England.

Moderatorwell the way your talking it sounds like a system fault probably a blockage in the refrigeration system thats sort of reversed the refrigertion process. not an easy fix and wont be cheap
As for the replacement i will tag Don in as he has more retail experience

when you say the beko unit will only work down to 10 degrees they say this to stop the possibility of the freezer defrosting. seperate units ie stand alone fridge and freezers dont have this problem

ModeratorBeko fridge freezers incorporate their “freezer guard” which on thier site states ” our Freezer Guard technology ensures your freezer will always function properly, even in temperatures as low as -15°C. We do not recommend you use your fridge compartment in low ambient temperatures”.
what said the freezer will work done to -15 degrees C as it does not state on the fridge freezers about the 10 degrees C . Refrigeration climate class SN which is the UK standard states ” SN (Sub Normal) +10°C – +32°C”. working range.
If the temperature did drop below for a sustained period of time then yes the fridge section may stop working.
A couple of examples here to consider.

Participantthank you.
I am writing a list it has zanussi, bosch, liebherr and samsung on it at the mo, I’m rather weary of Beko as I recall them being linked to a lot of house fires a few years back are they ok now?

ModeratorBeko like most manufacturers have had some issue or other over the years. I can vouch for Beko in the main and the others on your list as well.
Liebherr still the best by far if budget allows.
