Dr Madvibe
ParticipantHi helpful people.
I have a Siemens Extraklasse Hydrosensor (TypeS9V1S : E-NR SE24A230GB/17 : FD8307) with a fault.
The lower spraying arm is not spraying any water and therefore not turning either.
I have checked for blockages; there are none and the upper arm is fine. I’ve even checked the little pump at the bottom under the filter (which is also clean).
I just took off the pipe to the upper arm and the water comes out of separate holes to each arm, so does that mean I need a new motor?
cheers

Sounds like a problem with the distributor valve on the HEATER BOX which diverts the water between top and bottom arm. You should hear the water sound changing from top to bottom and back again while the machine is running when it works correctly.
If unsure, you’ll need to remove it and check the rotating baffle is still attached inside, unfortunately it’s not a small job due to the poor access 😕

Hi
Does that machine have an option button for top rack or half load .

Thanks for the replies Mike & Clive.
There is no half-load option (according to the manual), so the valve looks like the culprit.
I found an exploded diagram at the Siemens website.
If I were to try and check the rotating baffle, is it inside the water heater part (48 0358)? And if so, how do I get to it; or should I just call our local repair man and say what it is? I got him round about a month ago, but of course it temporarily cured itself then.
regards

Yes but access is awful, you basically need to separate the base from the rest of the machine….not technically difficult but as an engineer i would allow an hour to do it comfortably.
If you’re not prepared to set aside half a day then maybe an engineer is your best bet…tell him the symptoms and what you think it might be, he may come with the part, IIRC there’s only two or three versions of the heater box out there.

Thanks again Clive.
I think my local friendly enginer would be the best bet in this case then as I don’t fancy spending half a day wondering if I’m doing the right thing 🙂

I’m back again, not having done anything about the problem above yet.
Well, that’s not quite true. I did get my local friendly engineer round to look at it and after doubting our (your) diagnosis, finally agreed that it was the heater box. However, he quickly went on to say that if it was his, he wouldn’t think twice, dump it and buy a new cheap one. I don’t want a cheap one, I want good one.
The machine is over 6 six years old now. Do you think it’s worthwhile repairing it? I haven’t had any other cause for concern other than this. But her indoors (today anyway) is inclined to say “it’s had a good innings, let’s get a new one” (she does that a lot).
How long do these things last? I’m loathe to spend the £180 I was quoted for the repair if it’s going to be the first of many. But equally it’s a lot less than a new Bosch / Siemens equivalent.
cheers

Hi
6 year old Siemens used once a day and still in good condition? I would have it repaired. As you say it`s a lot more to replace it like for like.

I agree….it’s probably only half way through it’s life cycle. These particular machines have a proven track record now and are more reliable and durable than most 😉
