ParticipantHi, We’ve had the above model since 2004, with very few problems.
Last week, I noticed that when I selected a program and switched the machine on, within minutes it was beeping to indicate that the program was finished.
It was making a noise as if it was running even whilst the door was open. As it is out of warranty, we called an engineer.
He told us that he had discovered slight corrosion on the motor, and that there was a leak inside (there was no sign of wetness on the floor) and didn’t say where the leak was coming from. He said that the leak was causing the program to cut out and that it was unrepairable – or we could pay between £180 – £250 to replace the motor. He used a syringe to drain water from somewhere within the bottom of the machine and said it would work a couple more times before cutting out again.
When he went, I put the machine on, it ran through the program ok, but at the end of the program there was dirty water in the bottom – this hadn’t been there prior to the repair? It is no longer making the running sound when the door is open, but it is not draining, so can’t be used.
I actually don’t know what to think. Is it worth paying someone else to come out, because to be frank, I’m not sure this guy knew the model. He seemed to be chopping and changing what he thought was wrong with it.
Any thoughts would be very much appreciated – thanks.

ParticipantWith the appliance running with the door open , it meant there was water in the base activating the flood protection system so there would most probably be a leak. The water would be sitting in the base unit and so you wouldn’t actually see any water outside the machine.
A leaking motor seal could be the cause. If it has been leaking for some time , it could have caused corrosion in the motor and thus the need for a new motor as well as sealing kit.
All in all , i sounds a feasible reason for a fault.
Have you checked the drain pump impellor for a foreign object . It should be accessible via a small white cover in the base of the tub , under the filters .

Thank you very much for your prompt response – your explanation has certainly clarified a lot of what I didn’t understand. 😀
The drain pump impellar is proving difficult to access. The screw heads are damaged and there isn’t much thread.
In your opinion, is it worth paying out for a repair?
Also, I have another issue of odour, obviously due to the water sitting in the base.
