ParticipantOur dishwasher has recently developed this intermittent fault where sometimes you open it in the morning and all is well, but sometimes when you open it there’s a puddle in the bottom.
I’ve googled and come up with various suggestions, mostly dividing into blocked or dodgy pump or kink/blockage in the outlet hose. I’ve checked the pump and it looks fine. I’ve checked the hose, and it looks fine too. And the thing that’s really baffling me is the intermittent bit. I would’ve thought that the pump/hose either was or wasn’t dodgy – not dodgy one day, fine the next.
Oh, one other thing: traditionally I’ve almost always run it on the Auto setting, but since this started happening a fortnight or so ago I’ve been running it on Intensive, on the basis that maybe the hot water would help if it was about blockage in the pipe. And like I say, it’s been washing fine – just sometimes with a puddle. Last night I tried it on Auto, and it stopped after about 15 minutes. (The first time that’s happened.) The Check Water light was on, and when I opened the door there was a (much deeper) puddle on the bottom. I turned it off, then back on again, and switched to Intensive, and it started working (and completed the cycle, with no puddle, for good measure!)
I’d be very grateful for any suggestions.

Have you removed the pump cover and checked the pump impeller is not restricted (fish bone, general food detritus). User manual gives clear instructions on how to do this.

Thanks for getting back to me. Yup – done that. Clean as a whistle, and the impeller and the valve ‘flipper’ leading to the outlet both seem fine and moving freely.

Very likely the pump is worn out. If there is any lateral movement of that pump impeller that is enough to indicate the bearings are worn and it therefore jams. Works OK from cold but once it gets hot it jams.

Thanks. I suppose after daily use for a decade it’s to be expected. The only thing I don’t understand is how it sometimes works but sometimes doesn’t.

Read my previous concluding sentence for the likely answer.

Thanks again. I wondered about that…except that the one time it actually stopped was when it was on the colder Auto programme. On the 70 degree intensive programme it was ok.
