ParticipantDoor closed, power button pushed and I can hear the aquastop go clunk, and let a tiny bit of water through…
Thought it needed cleaning, had most of the pipes off and flushed through…
Manually tripping the flood microswtich operates the pump which empties out the water.
But no display lights, or digits (it’s only got a 2 digit display, but nothing lights up).
So I would reckon power is not an issue, but perhaps the control unit is defunct, allowing a moment of power to the aquastop and then turning it off… pump still works via flood switch.
Is there anything else to check, or is the lack of display pointing to a control board fail?

Anyone have any tips for what else to check / test ?
I read postings about a capacitor which fails, but I assume that would prevent power from reaching the pump, which still works (if I push the flood switch manually) … ?

ParticipantThe best thing you could do is check the control board for burnt out components/track.
It sounds like a component within the dishwasher has gone and taken out the board but only a good inspection of the board can confirm this.
My bet would be the diverter motor in the instantaneous water heater.

I assume the control board is in behind the buttons… could you guide me as to how to access it?
I’ve failed to find a schematic of this dishwasher. The manual download is instructional only… although the insides look a lot like some of the photos posted in this forum.
Might you have a schematic, eg: exactly which component is the water heater motor you mention ?
(I found a posting mentioning a diagram with hose part numbers eg #415, but have been unable to locate such a diagram for this machine).

Ok, I got the front control panel open, disconnected all the leads and removed the board. It looks just fine, no signs of burning. Replaced all connections, hoping perhaps the problem was simply something loose…
Same result. No display, but when you push the power button you hear a slight pop (electrical connection being made?) , and I hear the water clunk slightly as the aquastop opens for a split second.

I think you’re in trouble. The clunk from the valve at switch on suggests that there is some activity from the pcb, as it performs a diagnostic routine on power up. If it won’t do anything else, it does imply that the pcb has had it.

This machine was in the house when we bought it, and I’ve no idea how old it is…Would it be more sensible to simply buy a new Siemens SN25M230GB with a 5 year warranty, which would only be about twice the cost of a new PCB + whatever has caused it to fail…
I realise this doesn’t sound so ethical (unless someone reconditions old Siemens? – rather than disposal) , but will the old machine go another 5 years with another repair bill… I’m not so sure…

ParticipantGareth , on the label/etching on the top of the inner door will be your ENR number SE56590gb/07 and then after this you will find an FD number . It will be a 4 digit number. This will tell you how old your machine is.
The first 2 digits represent the year of manafacture but you will need to add 20 to it to get the year
The last two digits represent the month of manafacture .
i.e FD 8309 = 2003 september
FD 8012 = 2000 december
FD 7703 = 1997 marchMarch 4, 2010 at 9:21 pm #313353grb

FD8012… makes it over 9 years old, so if I spent £200 fixing it, would it promise not to cost another £200 in the next 5 years? versus a new £400 Siemens with 5 years warranty.

ParticipantThere’s no guarantee that it’ll last 5 weeks let alone 5 yrs . It’s just not possible to make any declaration on longevity of a 9 yr old machine.
It comes down to your own choice…..

No, indeed… just thinking aloud really. My preference would likely be to start afresh, esp. as I don’t really know the history of the current machine… although it rather seems a shame to dispose of such a large item, which was working up until a week ago.
Any recommendations around the price figure, eg: the model I mentioned?
