ParticipantHi folks, I’m new here and hate to log on and use the forum without giving anything back, so I will detail the repair (~ if successful!) and post it on here for the next person. Here is my problem:
Dishwasher wouldn’t drain, remover covers and found that impeller was free. Sucked out the water and took off the drain, wrapped in a plastic bag and blew through, didn’t get much but sussed there was probably a check valve. Removed at pump side and blew through and found that it was not blocked. Defeated door interlock and ran on the rinse cycle for a minute or two, but the impeller did not turn. Assuming this should run most of the time to clear the sump. De-energised all and pulled out the pump. It’s been out before( dishwasher was in the house when we moved in, we are careful not to put too much waste in there , but all the jets were blocked etc. when we got it, after a good clean it has ran well for 6 months )but appears to be in good shape with no obvious issues. Bearings seem fine. My question is, would I have seen the impeller run in the space of time I observed it, which was long enough to fill the base of the machine or does it run on and off. ~I have a meter, what tests can I do on the pump before replacement, also is there a capacitor I don’t know about. Any help you can provide would be great, thanks, Dave.April 26, 2014 at 3:14 pm #412900Moffett

Okay pump is not open circuit, but I see the positive to the winding is blackened and only hanging by a thread. Must be heating and going open, very hard to photograph. When compared to the other side, it looks like the plastic has been cut back and the connection soldered…badly.
I might try to unwind a small piece and solder it back until I can get a replacement.

Yeah well okay, re-soldering didn’t work, but the new part did. Dishwasher has been working away for the last day or so. I forgot to take pictures as it fit it the morning after a wedding and my head was banging. I only started the job so I wouldn’t have to wash the dishes!. Part fit was not listed for the machine ( part ordered was 19.99 as opposed to 60+ for the Siemens part ). It seemed like an obvious fit from the pictures. Only difference was two poles instead of 4, but only two of the four were used on the original. They were the same manufacturer and the PN was 165261. My wife reckons I would have gotten a better response on an antiques forum!…take care all.

Very astute observation your wife made as it happens. 😉
