ParticipantOur rather old Siemens washing machine has started displaying an “F” code upon switching on. Upon pressing the power button it starts (even if normally it would not because no programme is selected). I am not an engineer but I believe it may be trying to pump out the water. I am saying this because this has happened after mrs alexuk has blocked the kitchen sink (where the outlet of the dishwasher is) and has tried to unblock it in a number of ways. Eventually I opened the U tube and released a bunch of vegetables there. Upon opening the dishwasher I noticed water there. I guess the pressure had refilled the washer from the outlet.
I would try now opening the outlet at the sink level and check it’s free of any substance but I fear any object may have now travelled back to the dishwasher.
Does the above course of action make any sense? Or do you have any advice? TiA!

OK, did a little bit reading around and a possible cause seemed to be that the machine had been flooded when the water had been blocked earlier. I took it out and given much of the water had now drained, I tilted it as suggested in other posts and the machine stopped pumping. I tried a reset but I do not have the instruction manual (it was bought 2nd hand). Did all this with mains off.
I did: two reset buttons + switch on, but would enter some special mode that I could not exit. While pressing the two reset buttons again a “1” appeared. I closed the door and did the machine did some sort of cycle (perhaps a test cycle?). After that the electrics seemed to have gone back to standard mode.
I am doing a wash cycle as I type. Fingers crossed.

Dishwasher seems fine. I’d still like to know how to operate the resets etc but cannot find any manual online.
Just one question if anyone is reading this. What is the appropriate level of water in the sump? In ours the level is well above the outlet. I understand some water is normal to remain there but I am wondering whether that’s too much.

Three posts and not one contains the vital piece of information needed to help us give you any answers. 😉

Gosh – I thought I’d added it yesterday after the first post!
It is a se24030gb/17.
The machine has got stuck into pumping out again during a short cycle. I tilted it a little towards the back and in a few secs it stopped. Hmm.

When you tilt it does any water run out from the back?
The machine has an internal, ‘non return’ flap valve which should prevent water from getting back into the machine from the outlet pipe.
You could always try running the machine with the outlet pipe hung over the side of the sink to test if that is possible.
Reset is normally achieved by pressing two of the programme buttons at the same time, these buttons are often marked with a small dot under them.
Could be different on this model, some of the BSH experts may know better. 😉

Thanks for the interest

When I took it out there a little bit of water but I assumed it came from taking it out from taking it out with the door open. It’s just got stuck again today I tilted it towards the back without taking it out and it stopped in a few secs. No water came from under the dishwasher but I should take it out to be really sure.

Right now it’s certainly pumping out water fine. I can hear it and I’ve done a few washes which went OK.

Yes, that’s how I reset it. However, first time round the lights remained on and upone pressing the two buttons for reset again, a “1” came out and the machine began a program, I guess a test program.
I’ve just done a full wash and it worked fine. 😯

It sounds like you have managed to get some water in the base and this has tripped the flood protection system. It doesn’t take a great deal of water to do this and tipping the machine around has moved the water away from the detection mechanism (a polystyrene float with switch above!)
In all probability it will now be fine and the remaining water in the base will gradually evaporate but you might like to take the right hand side panel off, tip the machine slightly to that side and mop any water you can see in the base…be careful not to get water on the wiring or motor and make sure it’s unplugged at all times :zap:

Thanks for this. I can only assume the water came in when the sink got blocked and for some reason the safety valve mentioned earlier is not fully working particularly against attempt of unblocking the sink with a plunger.
re RHS panel, I’ve never taken it out. I’ll see what happens this week. If it stops again I’ll take it down and proceed as you say. Thanks very much for the advice.
On reflection, if you think I should open the machine and clear any residual water anyway (electrics with water around doesn’t sound great to me), please let me know. We’ll go back to doing the dishes and I’ll do it next Sat.
Thanks again.

If you leave it until next Saturday then evaporation will have done the job for you. 😉
