I have a Siemens Siwamat 5100 (around 13 years old).

    E-NR: WM51000GB/01
    FD: 7605 00086

Today it completed the wash programme around 10 minutes earlier than expected. The door wouldn’t open, and I suspect it didn’t do the spin cycle at the end of the programme. I changed it to a spin only programme, which completed normally and I was able to remove the washing.

Any ideas as to what might have caused it to fail?

    Thanks

    Is “Rinse Hold” pressed?

No, “Rinse Hold” is not a button but is a setting on the spin speed selector. It definitely wasn’t selected. Perhaps the load was just unbalanced and it gave up?

I guess I’ll find out the next time I do a wash.

    Thanks

Motor carbon brushes being almost finished can cause spin to become erratic before ceasing altogether.

Thanks for that, I’ll keep an eye on it. FWIW it worked fine yesterday.

Have you any idea roughly how much it might cost to get the brushes replaced? And would it be worthwhile on a 13 year old machine?

    Thanks
