ParticipantOk I have a Siemens topline washer dryer E-Nr. WK 61420 GB /13 FD 8211 400097.( its about 12 years old)
It stopped spinning-at all-so after much checking on the net , took it apart and checked drain pump which was clear ( machine pumps fine ,little noise)
Then moved onto brushes which as it turned out where worn down ( unevenly ?) One of the bushes had only 6mm left. Apparently according to the guy in the shop siemens change motors in their machines on a whim and mine was fitted with brushes fixed into a plastic housing and then into the aluminium end part of the motor and could only be bought as a single part …….that will be £ 72!!! .
So fitted this and checked for free running and refitted the motor and belt , quick check with pictures taken beforehand and everything ok .
Reassemble and replace in slot (its an integrated unit)( yes its heavy, awkward etc…)
Machine now spins in for about 15 seconds on spin cycle and then stops , on wash program will start to revolve then stop.
Cannot move program through cycle ie wash/rinse/final rinse/spin when it stops it has to be turned off and on again to advance . Can be pumped out to empty machine.
Do i check the suds pump from the back and disassemble the complete pipework?
The door needs to be slammed to start the machine, could a flaky door switch be the problem?
Thanks for any thoughts.
The dryer has packed up as well but its not important……unless it is!February 3, 2016 at 10:09 pm #435038electrofix

by the look of it its a new rear end for the motor part number 496876 £58.86 from siemans
if it was this it sounds like the motor tacho is not working. the tacho is a magnet at the back of the motor armature that spins in a coil. it feeds a signal back to the electronics. make sure the magnet has not been damaged and check if there is an output with a multimeter

I am fairly up with most diy and own a meter but dont understand?
Can you explain in simpler terms please( sorry am now 54 and things dont get remembered like they used to be )February 4, 2016 at 9:42 am #435040electrofix

the tacho small generator that generates an ac voltage
there are 6 or 7 pins on your motor which are as follows
2 pins armature
2 pins (or 3) field coil
2 pins tachofirst use a multimeter on low ohms scale and find which pins join to which pins. ie hold meter lead on first pin then move other lead down other pins till you get a reading. keep doing this till you can say what all pins do. the tacho coil may need a higher resistance scale to detect
the lowest ohm readings are the armature and field coil so ignore these pins. set meter to a low ac voltage scale (millivolts), put meter leads on the tacho output pins. spin motor and you should see an output.
if you get a signal it is important you check the voltage get to the board so buzz through the wiring harness to make sure you don’t have a broken wireDave

At £72 you were ripped off. The part (as Dave mentioned) should have the part number 00496876, if it doesn’t you’ve fitted the wrong part and hence why it doesn’t work.

Not tested yet, but the other half has ordered a new machine SMEG WMI12C7 Integrated Washing Machine so its a bye bye to the old one.
Would still like to know what the problem was.
Other forum advice is the tacho or the pcb either of which is a £200+ bill added to the £70 already spent so common sense is a new machine, yes?
Will try testing over weekend and post results anyway.
Thanks for the help………scrap siemens anybody?( new brushes!!)
Oh yes my neighbour said last time i used washer it was very noisy(more than usual) -
