ParticipantHave this machine and it stopped working – drum not turning. Engineer has replaced motor, which was fried and then replaced the main power control unit. The machine now does everything except spin. That is the m/c washes and drains, tumble dryer works fine. The engineer has given up on this. Can anybody help as to what the problem may be please?

Does it attempt to spin, then slow down again? Or just no movement at all?

It doesn’t seem to want to spin, the drum turns on all other modes just not spin. That is it will drain and turn the drum backwards and forwards to distribute the load, it just doesn’t want to then spin. eventually it ends the spin cycle and stops.

Not sure if this machine has a tacho coil fitted..
. That’s a small coil attached to the rear of the motor.. It will have 2wires coming from it.. And underneath this there is a permanent magnet attached to the motor spindle.. This is how the electronics recieve the relative speed info ..
Check the wires are intact..and check for continuity of the coil using a multimeter…
Also take coil off and check condition of the coil, and the magnet…Power off at all times!

Does it spin after a rinse cycle?

No it did not spin during rinse cycle either. However thanks to your post re- the motor I have fixed it. I was going to follow your instructions about checking the tacho coil and found the motor has a large multi plug. I removed this to see if I could see which wires you were referring to and found that the engineer had not seated the plug properly. Re-seated the plug and it all works perfectly.
Thank you for your help as without your direction I would not have thought to check the multi-plug as the engineer has been out 4 times looking at this so I sort of assumed that this had been checked and tested. Broke my own rule here – never assume anything, always check and re-check

Glad to have helped you.. Had a look at a new motor and could see the multi plug you refer to.. That was going to be my next suggestion….
