Siemens WM12P160GB/03 washing machine- wont drain but no blockage.

Hello forum,
I have a Siemens washing machine WM12P160GB/03 which wont drain.
I have cleaned out the filter and drain pipe several times, both are clear, but it still reports the same error.

When switched to Empty, the machine makes a loud humming noise, but doesn’t start the drain sequence (drain sequence is normally louder with a definite sound of pumping water).
The fault is intermittent, because after filter cleaning where I check and turn the impeller manually it seems to work again, but then fails on the next full run cycle.

Any ideas?
A problem with the pump? brushes perhaps?

I previously replaced brushes on the drum motor about 12 months ago.

PS, I just discovered that I can trick it into draining by switching it to ‘refresh’ program and letting it turn over a few times, then back to empty and it starts to drain ok…
I’m puzzeled now?

Check for blockage in the hoses, pump and waste plumbing. If none it’s most likely the pump at fault.

As Murv said above, from what you describe it sounds as if you have a faulty pump.

Thanks guys,
In removed the pump intending to take it to a spare’s shop, only to see a white plastic object stuck behind the impeller.
Foreign object removed and all is well… pumping as normal.

Lesson learned, use a torch to inspect the impeller ! even if it seems to turn ok.

Don’t sweat it buddy, truth be told we’ve all been caught out by dumb things like that & ended up kicking ourselves;).
Be glad you looked before buying a new pump, a good bright torch is essential when working on appliances.
