ok

know i have been lucky with this machine, 12 years without any real problem other than new brushes

now trips rcd on consumer unit when rinse hold button is released, whether machine empty or not, or whether in cycle or not

taken lid off, no sign of any leaks, also looked for chafed wires but cannot see,

any ideas, motor?

great machine but beyond economival repair given age?

This is one of the Spanish Balay-built machines.

The rinse-hold button forms a loop through the timer to turn off the timer motor at the last rinse position by breaking the circuit due to the switch combination within the timer. Releasing the button restores power to the timer motor. I can’t recall ever having had an Eaton timer motor coil break down to earth, but I suppose anything is actually possible.

Check motor circuit by removing its’ plug and trying it – power off first, of course.

Definitely an odd one……….

think this maybe beyond my level, i get by with replacing parts etc, but would have no idea how to do as you suggest

just removed and cleaned brushes, left machine out of cycle and all buttons not pressed in, switched machine on and still rcd trips, so will not trip when switched on and rinse button on, so presume this pointing to the motor or curcuit?

guess it comes down to a callout, if a motor leakage fault, any ideas on cost of repair? think it may be better to let this one go and replace

had a very good run though, any recommendations, don’t think i can strectch for another siemens, but understand the lower entry models are not what they used to be?

I think you misunderstood what P45 was saying!….because of legal issues as a professional, he’s restricted…….I’m just another “man in the street” so 😀

The switch, (which you have identified as isolating the fault) cuts out the little motor that drives the programmer. follow the wires back (mains plug OUT ) check the contacts the wires go to (ohm-meter) they should not be grounded.

look carefully at the timer, you should be able to identify the motor and the two wires coming out of it…….he’s suggesting you unplug these wires from their contacts (make a diagram! or use a digital camera BEFORE you disturb anything)…..if the button then has no effect(when the machine’s plugged in and switched on) then the timer motor is faulty. if the fault is still there with the timer-motor unplugged, it’s probably an internal contact-fault.

I have stripped and repaired a timer(programmer) fiddly and didn’t last long
no parts available, it’s a replacement unit.

think i disconnected the correct cables but still the same issue, will call it a day ansd look to replace, thinking of an lg with a 3 yr warranty, on sale at £249 delivered, can’t stretch to much more at present, although would have liked to consider another mid range siemens/bosch or low end miele, even like the look of the ise

hoping i don’t regret the lg, but if it goes belly up after 3 yrs i may be in the position to upgrade to a better quality one at the time

don’t like the throw away mentality, first hotpoint lasted 13 yrs, then this one was great, would love to see if i could get 20 out of a miele

If, indeed, the timer is faulty, I’d try the local repairers (or even a scrapyard!)
and swap the timer with a used unit. If the drum bearings are still good, that machine is likely to be far superior to the LG !

3-year guarantee isn’t worth a toss if you have to spend all day off work, waiting for a repairman who doesn’t show…..then when you DO get a visit,he doesn’t have the parts……..the parts sent are the wrong ones…….the right ones come but don’t cure the fault………. 😯

what price do you put on aggro and lost days?

Look at the ISE…..the guys who run this site, have specified the machines
they don’t have a multi-million pound chain of retail-park sheds to hide behind.
If they upset a customer,they break the cardinal rule of working for yourself…namely “DON’T s*it on your own doorstep”

I’d sooner buy the ise2 if i was on a tight budget…..but i’m tight so i’d persevere with repairing the old one
