ParticipantWhen the drum rotates you can hear what I can best describe as ‘something tumbling around’
Apart from the noise the drum seems to rotate ok by hand and it completed its last wash ok, just sounded a bit noisy.
There’s nothing inside the drum so I’m guessing there’s a foreign object between the outside of the drum and its casing.
Is it possible that something got in there from the washing (someone didn’t empty their pockets?) or could something of worked loose, a bolt of something? How do I get the object out?
Thanks for reading 😀

Probably a coin. The best thing to do is unplug the machine then, using a bright torch, look through the holes in the drum and see if you can see it. Putting your head in the drum will help and you can listen and locate the object.
Once you know where it is, remove the heater or sump hose, as applicable, and remove it. Requires a bit of patience but a lot easier than splitting the drum.
Sometimes you can’t reach it, in this case drum will need to be removed and split to retrieve object.
Whatever you do DON’T use the machine in the meantime – a coin can and will very easily punch a hole through the outer drum, effectively writing off your machine.

It was a wire from a bra.
Looking into the drum I saw nothing but then I done what you said.
To the amusement of the family I stuck my head in the drum and used a very bright LED torch.
Now here’s the lucky bit, the smallest amount of bra wire was still protuding through one of holes and I just (and I mean just) managed to get hold of it with some small pliers.
Thank you very much odom for making this an easy fix 😀August 25, 2010 at 8:58 pm #328861odom

No problem at all. Certainly not the most elegant position but it does get the job done!
You can prevent this happening in future by washing underwire bras in a old pillowcase, so if the wire escapes it doesn’t get into the washing machine – I say that as my last job today was a 20 month old Beko where the bra wire had pierced right through the bottom of the drum!
