ParticipantMy washing machine blew the fuse in the mains plug.
I’ve replaced the fuse and now the machine won’t start and the following LED’s are flashing
End
Intensive Wash
Extra Rinse
Pre Wash
There is also an unmarked LED flashing which is to to the right of ‘Pre Wash’ that you can only see with the fascia removed.
All other LED’s are off
The drum and the pump seems to rotate freelyAny info is appreciated 😀

Errors are recorded only with the following LED’s : Wash, Rinse & Spin. Any other LED’s (programme options etc) do not represent an error code. Therefore you will need to check the motor, heater, PCB, pump etc to establish what exactly was the cause of the fuse blowing AND in so doing has it also caused the PCB to fail (blow)????

Thanks very much Martin much appreciated.
If the pcb is faulty I should be able to get it fixed for £50 but I need to know what caused the problem in the first place.
I’ve been trying to test the heater & thermostat.
To get full access on this model I need to remove the front panel, rather than do that I’ve identified the wires leading to the heater & thermostat and have removed them from the pcb and other components. The heater & thermostat have now been completely isolated.
When I measure across the heater I get 27ohm which seems good
When I measure across the thermostat I get 7.8Kohm
Now here’s the bit I don’t get
When I measure either leg of the heater to earth I get an unsteady reading. It starts off around 2kohm and if left for a while ends up at 40Kohm.
Is that normal?January 24, 2014 at 8:00 pm #408398Martin
ParticipantRe: Siemens WXLM148AGB FD8603 fault
Not normal. It needs testing with an insulation tester really, otherwise based on what you say the heater is very suspect.

I’m going sleep on this but thanks again Martin your help is very much appreciated.

I’m still investigating why my pcb has blown, testing of the heater is on hold at the moment while I test the motor.
My motor has an 8 way connection block plus an earth connection.
One of the brushes is connected to pin 4 the other brush is connected to pin 5.
unfortunately it’s not possible to tell what the other pins connect up to.Here’s what I measure
Pin1 to pin2= 1ohm
Pin1 to pin3= 1ohm
Pim2 to pin3= 1.8oh
Pin4 to pin5= 2.3ohm These are the brushes. If I turn the armature slowly the reading remains the same. I therefore assume the armature is ok?
Pin6 to pin7= 23ohmI also get a momentarily reading (like a capacitor?) from 2meg ohm to infinity between Pins3&4, pins4&6 and pins6to8
Note
Pin8 is the only pin that doesn’t get a proper reading. It only has the momentarily reading between pins6and8.No readings between any pins to earth.
Brushes are ok
The motor looks clean with no sign of arcingMy guess (and it is only a guess!) is that the motor is ok?
I know I can’t be given a definitive answer, but your ideas would be appreciated.Edit
Just been thinking about the reading on pin8
If it is open circuit then surely that wouldn’t cause the pcb and fuse to blow?January 26, 2014 at 8:25 pm #408401Martin

It’s an earth leakage that has caused the PCB to blow, I would think. And only an insulation tester (not a multimeter) can check out the motor and heater etc correctly. I couldn’t do my job or answer your problem with your machine without the use of one. It’s what we do in the trade as a matter of course. 😀

Thanks again Martin.
I’ll see if I can lay my hands on an insulation tester.
If not perhaps it’s time for a new machine but at least I know I’ve tried.
As you may have guessed I’m not a throw away consumers that automatically sends things to landfill 😀 -
