I thought there was already a thread going, asking members about their blunders but I can’t find it so will have to start one.
Went this morning to a Hotpoint WM65 which was leaking. Stripped it down and found badly damaged inner drum, broken heater with bracket in 2 chewed up bits, worn bearings and a small hole at the top of the tub front. I offered to fit new bearings and secondhand heater, inner drum and tub front. Rounded up the bits and went back this afternoon to fit them. Did bearings, fitted inner drum, pulley and belt and started fitting tub front. Noticed huge gap between tub front and front edge of inner drum. Ooooops 😳 . I had only gone and fitted a washer dryer drum which is smaller! I now have to have another rake about in my spares shed for the correct drum.

I have done worse on a Hotpoint top loader…replaced power unit, all done cabinet back on, tested all ok, sounded a bit quiet but what the heck…wrote out bill, went to find customer to pay and tripped over the inner drum still sitting on the the floor where I left it.

Nice one  I seriously thought it was just me who did such things! I think what we all do when doing a job we’ve done a hundred times before, is go into “brain standby mode” my latest shocker was trying to fit a door seal while thinking about whats for dinner or the futility of our existence or whatever & a fair few minutes later noticed i was trying to fit it inside out! 😳

    😳
With the customer stood next to me today looking on as I’m getting ready to fit an ISE2.
Disconnected the old fill hoses, plugged in the old machine :con: ……………then cut the mains cable off  .
    BANG.
    Customer didn’t notice a thing 😯 .

Ah yes, I didn’t look that far back. In my case, I blame heredity. One Sunday about 25 years ago I went to help my mother serve up the Sunday roast, my usual job was mashing the spuds. She went to get the chicken out of the oven but it was not there. After a bit of searching we found the chicken, cleaned and stuffed, in its casserole tin, in the cupboard! She used to regularly put the empty, washed milk bottle in the fridge and the current, part used one outside the door. 😆
