siphon mystery

I have a Zanussi DE6854 dishwasher. Recently it has been stopping with an error code flashing and dirty water at the bottom of the washer.

THe manual suggests it could be a blocked siphon, something I can fix myself, I should clean out the siphon.

Problem is, I have no idea what the siphon is or what it does, nowhere in the manual does it tell me what the siphon is, where it is, or how to clean it out.

The Zanussi helpline is permanently engaged.

Any ideas how I locate and clean my siphon, folks?????

If you are not an engineer or technician may I suggest that you find yours one by going to FIND AND ENGINEER.

Hi Dave. There are two lights flashing, the Programme light of the ‘Normal’ programme I selected, and the Drying Cycle light. So it’s not so much a numbered code, it’s the combination of lights that I used to locate the fault in the trubleshooting guide in the handbook.

Bill – the handbook suggests it’s something the user can do.

I think it points at an NTC failure – this is the temperature sensor. Awkward one to try and solve – pro help?

Check Repairs@ or Directories for a UKW repairer in your area.
Power off if you are invesigating furher.

I had this problem with an AEG machine. Luckily a friend told me a trick to try. Simply move the machine into free space and tilt it from front to back about 45 degrees. This was all ot took to clear the error code and solve the problem. It also rectified a noisy pump which must be related. I don’t know why the manuals don’t give this technique because it does say you should be able to clear the siphon but doesn’t say how.

Thank you for your input to this dead thread Rosco.

Future readers please note that the appliance should be unplugged before any action is taken. The procedure described will drain a leak into the undertray by pouring the water onto the floor. The leak must then be traced and repaired. It does not solve the syphoning problem.
