    Hi,

I have to try and repair six Lux EWF14108 washing machines with the same problem from the same establishment – coins and screws stuck between the front plate of the tub and the drum.

Couple are coins which are loose and should be able to get these out without to much bother.

The others are jammed in the same position by screws/nails making the drum either impossible or very difficult to turn.

Anyone have a tip for extracting these blighters without major dismantling.

My advice will probably be to get different machines as this is an obvious weakness on these particular machines and with many different tradespeople using them it will probably happen again very quickly.

But a tip from your collective experiences would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    Laurence

Many posts in the past have touched heavily on the subject and the underlying conclusion is that there are no shortcuts to the problem. The tub has to be taken apart, besides, it’s a nice little earner for the extended labour charge inflicted on those daft enough to allow it to happen in the first place! 😈

    Thanks Martin,

Thought as much, just wanted to make sure I wasn’t missing a trick though.

    Thanks again.

For metal items, use a strong magnet from the back of a speaker, put it inside the drum against the front face. Once the object is attracted to the magnet, turn the drum until the item is at the top and pull off the magnet.

Just one of many results of an advanced search of the forum. Sometimes you wonder what Martin is like :rolls: . If the drum is jammed solid, try stuffing the rag in a bit firmer to open the gap a bit between the plastic and the stainless surfaces.

    Thanks Mike,

Two very helpful pieces of info.

This will work on a couple of the machines 😀 I mentioned but others are nails and screws where the shanks have got between the lip fold of the drum but the heads can’t get through. The drums rotation has caused them to bite into the plastic tub and seize the drum.

    Thanks again.

    Mike.

I’ve messed with bits of wire, pipe cleaners and magnets in the past with mixed success. Often leading to a lot of fruitless time wasting better spent doing a proper job and taking the drum out. A typical instance where I spent 20 mins or more hooking one nail out only to find to my cost more in there that manifested themselves later. Resulting in 2 visits and only by taking the drum out revealed all.

So for me, it’s out with the drum every time. Better job done, more money earned. 😀

Re: Six Lux Washing Machine Drums Jammed – Not Bearings…

I once had one jammed absolutely solid and could not believe it was anything other than some sort of catastrophic bearing seizure even though there was no lateral movement.
Went equipped to do the bearing job and got so far as getting the drum out only to have a screw drop out as I separated the halves.
The other day an established customer way out in the sticks off my usual routes called with a problem like this. I gave her the info over the phone and suggested she have a go herself. She rang to thank me a couple of days later. She’d been successful after several tries and found the rubber strap on one of those jampot opening devices was what worked best for her.
