We’ve started a little Skype ring here, we’re using it for free calls to one another over the internet as it’s free and dead easy to use.

If you go to http://www.skype.com you can get all the details, all you need is a microphone on your PC or, better a headset or, better still, a VoIP/USB phone attached.

You get me under the username “Lynchpin”

    You get David under “davidcquinn”

    Sean under “sean4454”

And I honestly can’t recall the rest, but there’s a few.

My father emailed me about this but I’ve not got round to doing the huge download yet. We tried the audio facility on MSN Messanger but it was fairly useless. Even wearing headphones to stop the feedback you hear your own voice with a time delay. Is Skype better then?

If you hear your own voice coming back at you it is due to the person on the other end not using a headset mic system. In which case just ask them to turn their speakers off (or down maybe) 😉

Skype is far better than MSN for multi-conferencing and the lack of flippin’ adverts and stuff MSN inundate you with ❗

Yes it is and it’s only a 7Mb download, whaich isnt to bad at all, even on dial-up. The only thing I would say is that it can get a bit choppy on dial-up and if you’re doing a lot on the connection using BB.

I did try to get the download but it looks like Windows ME is not supported. 🙁

Yeah it should work under ME okay, although why you’d want to be using ME is another question entirely. 😉

We’ve successfully used Skype for several conference calls and I use it almost daily now, just as I do SIP as well. In fact we have a FWD link now from the office to Dave’s phone which just acts as a normal internal extension on the system, for the princely sum of £100!

VOIP is rapidly becoming more and more popular and I’ve even had a few people call the UKW VOIP number directly, so there are users (potential customers) out there using these technologies now. I just like to be ahead of the game a bit.

Thanks folks, I am now on broadband and have just registered for Skype, username fidobsa. I suppose the next thing is to look at USB phones on Ebay.

    Hiyas,
I don’t really need Skype as I already get all my landline phone calls free but I was in Maplins this afternoon getting some cables for my disco gear and I noticed a USB adapter for Skype. It basically connects your normal phones (including cordless) to VOIP and landline at the same time.
£29.99 each or two for £49.99. It’s called a VOIP Gateway if you want to search for it on the Maplin website. Looks like an interesting piece of kit so I’ll probably end up getting it 😛

Ah, my Ebay VOIP phone was just under £11 including postage. It might be rubbish of course 🙂

I’m going for the adapter, that way I don’t have to be near my computer…. mind you, I’m always near one of them 😛

    Anymore address’s?

    I’m ‘goatboy106’

But i’m only running it during shop opening hours.

Edit – Oh yeah, and I’d recommend it to everyone, along with a recommendation to reject the skype cookie 😉 it will still work.
