ParticipantIs there such a thing as a slimline (i.e. under 50cm wide) undercounter freezer? I need to replace my dying upright fridge freezer & preferably want undercounter separates but currently only have space for the freezer if I remove a 500mm kitchen cabinet, will a freezer fit this space or am I dreaming?

Thanks Don, I’ve been Googling & trawling through various sites but I guess what I’m really trying to find out is does a 50cm freezer fit in a 500mm space or does it need gaps either side so the space actually needs to be 540mm or something? I’ve got no tolerance as one side is the kitchen wall & the other is a cupboard with the sink above it.

No a 50cm machine will not fit into a 50cm space.
On the kitchen wall side is there a skirting board? This will reduce the width by about half an inch, unless of course you have taken that into consideration.

No skirting board, measurement is wall to sink cabinet end panel so bang goes that idea.
What about a fridge, I’ve seen a couple that are 47/48cm can they go in a 500mm space? Pain in the back side putting the fridge there as its behind the kitchen door but its the only space I’ve got for now.August 1, 2014 at 10:39 am #417356don

Don’t do that you will be forever cursing 😆
I have found a freezer that will go into a 50cm space this Beko will go in with room to spare.

A little more than I was hoping to spend but the budget will have to stretch to get something that fits. Nice work
Something else I should’ve considered, can a freezer go below a combi boiler? The boiler is mounted on the wall 45cm above the worktop so would be 53cm above the freezer but the pipes run down the wall so would be behind the back of the freezer, I could box them in & maybe insulate them if they are likely to be giving off too much heat that it would affect the freezer, freezer would then sit forward from the edge of the worktop by a few cm’s but that’s ok.August 1, 2014 at 11:44 am #417358don

Not ideal to have a cold and a heat source close to each other, anything you can do to reduce the heat from the pipework will certainly help.

Not sure how much heat they give off as they’ve always been behind the back of the kitchen cabinet but I could box them in using thermal plasterboard or ply & XPS, I would’ve thought that would give a fair amount of insulation between the two.
It would potentially only be for a year by which time I’ll hopefully be able to afford new worktops and to move & replace the sink, then there’ll be enough space for the washing machine to go in front of the pipes & the freezer next to it, it’s just a shame I can’t do it now and that my current fridge freezer isn’t going to last.August 1, 2014 at 5:55 pm #417360BB78

This fridge seems ok too http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/household-appliances/refrigeration/fridges/essentials-cul50w12-undercounter-fridge-white-12272069-pdt.html?gclid=CNupt_3P8r8CFcbJtAodzT4AhA&srcid=198&cmpid=ppc~gg~~~Exact&mctag=gg_goog_7904&s_kwcid=AL!3391!3!53188638084!!!g!56960006945!&ef_id=U9vS9QAAAT-STF2U:20140801174837:s £99.99 with free delivery and free recycling.
What I save on the fridge makes up for the extra spent on the Beko freezer. 🙂August 2, 2014 at 3:44 pm #417361BB78

Damn! Damn! Damn! Forgot how far the pipes behind the cupboard stick out, with boxing in the freezer would stick out 13cm past the edge of the worktop. 😥 Back to the drawing board.
If I can butcher & effectively half the carcass under the kitchen sink can a fridge or freezer be placed under a stainless steel draining board?
I’ve got 85cm in height, width the same again 50cm (maybe 1 or 2cm more depending on where the adapted cabinet ends), depth might be the problem now though as I’ve only got 51cm before it sticks out past the edge of the worktop.August 3, 2014 at 9:21 am #417362don

In that case this is the only one I can find in a brand name.
Good luck with the adjustments 😉

I’m not bothered about brand name to be honest, I can’t afford most of the rated brands anyway, as long as it’s ok to go under the draining board, fits the space & works I don’t really care who built it.
If it’s ok to put an appliance under the draining board then it can be a fridge or freezer as there’s no interference from the kitchen door, I’ve just got to work out how I’m going to move the end panel to make it work.August 3, 2014 at 11:47 am #417364don

You need to make sure you have no water leaks anywhere as water and leccy don’t mix :zap:

Shocking! :rotfl:
Recently fitted new tapes & all the plumbing was checked so no worries there, draining board could do with resealing anyway and with the cupboard out of the way I could seal from underneath too for a belt ‘n braces approach. -
