    Hi guys,

Just wondering how many of you out there make a sizeable percentage of your income from small repairs such as vacum cleaners and so on. Any taughts on the matter would be welcome as Im thinking of opening a small repair clinic.

It depends on your location i think, would it be easy for people to drop off vacuum cleaners etc, or are you going to call on them?

I think because small appliances are so cheap now, it really is a throw it away culture out there. 🙁

I don’t think you could make a living just doing that so it’s best just to include it as part of a larger business. I don’t usually do vacuums or microwaves at customers homes but if they can’t drop them off I offer to collect them next time I have a job nearby. In the case of elderly folk who are mostly at home this usually works fine.

Oh be jaysus Paddy you’ll do well for sure on small appliance/vac repairs if you’ve a central, easy to access location where your punters can access easily. A ‘Vac Service Clinic’ can be a raving goldmine if it’s easy for them to get to you as in the home service these days just ain’nt practical or cost effective.

Small appliances a no no but flogging electrical bits and bobs such as light bulbs, cable, plugs, sockets and lighting is a viable venture as the mark up is very high. The key here being if you can flog this or fix things others can’t be bothered with then there’s an opening to tap…for sure ..for sure. ALL THE BEST WITH THE IDEA!

when we had a shop we repaired vacs so here’s my take………charge an inspection fee up front or they drop it off you do the work ( if its not worth repairing you still spend time) and thats the last you’ll see of them. they’ll buy a new one when there in tesco. they take up a lot of space and you will eventually have to pay to scrap it.
