ParticipantHi, I’m looking for some help with my F & P SmartDrive 058,
When I power on the washer, all lights go on though it will not start filling.
I removed both inlet valves and found the hot water valve needs replacing, however, this should not prevent the machine from filling whilst on cold water setting.
In Jan 05, I replaced the reed switch and balance switch, and have pulled these out again to test with a multimeter: the balance switch works well. Not sure what to expect from the reed: resistance is approx. 4 kOhm with magnet and approx. 50 kOhm without… so seems OK. Not sure if the reed has to be installed in any particular direction. The error codes are as follows:0001 – 00000000
0010 – 00000000
0011 – 00000000
0100 – 01000100
0101 – 00111100
0110 – 00000101
0111 – 00000001
1000 – 00010110 – 00010111 led flashing slowly/intermitently
1001 – 01001001
1010 – 00000101
1011 – 11111111
1100 – 00000000 – 00000001 led flashing rapidly
1101 – 00100100
1110 – 01001001
1111 – 00010100Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Does it beep when you press the start/pause button?

No, it does not beep…
The standby led actually stops blinking when you press start/pause.
P.S. Thank you for your help…October 16, 2005 at 1:55 am #150535Zuberkarl

I’d like to correct my last response …
When I power on the machine, it beeps, all the leds light up, then switch off and the first led up the top (indicating first stage of cycle) is flashing… which is normal.
The machine actually does beep on pressing the start/pause button to begin the cycle.Sorry…

Apply a bit of logic here – the lid switch is just that, a switch. So, with the leads detatched, the switch reading should be infinite if open and near as spit zero when closed. I do realise that you have replaced it once, but it seems that it is a regular failure.

Hi Penguin 45,
Sure, sounds logical… I don’t know how the reeds work and thought that the trigger might be a change in resistance rather than plain ‘on/off’.
Given your answer, I will remove the switch and join the switch circuit on the machine with some wire. The machine should now work, hence, proving that the reed is faulty. Many thanks.

Just wanted to let you know that I removed the reed switch, completed the circuit and the machine is now working fine.
Thank you for your help.

Well done, don’t forget to replace it with another new one – don’t want small children whizzing round at 1000 rpm…. 😀
