does anyone have any thoughts about two issues I have with my new smeg. First issue is once installed the top oven light is permanatly on. With or without the oven/grill being on and the door being open/closed. The light is just on period.

Second having used the top oven twice it seems quite below par temp wise. The botton (fan) oven works perfectly.

I know nothing about cookers 🙂 but am guessing that maybe the heat and door open/closed sensors might be bust. If this likely? Is it repairable or do I just return it to the dealer and get another one.

    any help appreciated.

Re: smeg A42-5 top oven fault

It is evidently something to do with the top oven thermostat as this not only conrols the heat but also the indicator light (assuming it’s the temp indicator staying on).

It may be something as simple as a loose connection or similar.

Smeg have their own network of Independant engineers who will be able to sort this out for you, phone Servevast on 0870 444 7002, they are the main agents who will pass your details to the relevent company/engineer.

It will be much simpler than having to uninstall it and return etc.

    Hope this helps.

    Regards

    Dave.

    Hi,

The lower oven uses forced air, i.e. a fan with an element around it at the back, which effectively blows air quickly and reasonably evenly around the inside of the cabinet. The benefits over a conventional non-fan assisted oven are that the temperature is more stable within the cavity, the thermostat is (generally) more accurate and the foods cooked more evenly and faster as well as a faster start up time reaching cooking temperature.

The top oven is a conventional static oven, i.e. non-fan assisted, which is actually of great use for more delicate foodstuffs, like pastries or sponges etc. where a prolonged cooking period is required. The heat will not be as even nor will it be ready to cook with as quickly. Think of it as a slower method of cooking but still a very useful and valid one.

That’s about the best I can explain it, hope it makes sense. 😕

thanks for the help guys. I’m having no luck getting hold of an operator at the Servevast. Does anyone know of service contractors in the republic of ireland? The cooker was bought in the north but the house is down south.

    cheers again
