KeymasterI have a problem with the ceramic hob on my Smeg A1CA-5 (which is out of warrenty), two of the rings have stopped working which coincided with an intermittent fault on the ring temperature indicators.
The indicator now works partially and glows faintly when the remaining rings are used.
I suspect the rings are not at fault and that it is linked to the temperature indicator.
Any help or advice would be appreciated

It does sond like the simmerstats (plate switches/control).
If you can let me know which position (of the switches) and which plates are the problem I’ll check details of the parts as they all differ.
Dave.

It is worth checking the mains terminal block. It is not unusual for any electric hob manufactured outside the UK to have a terminal block wired for two phases and converted to the UK single phase system by means of links, for example terminals 1and 2 connected with a link for live and possibly 4 and 5 connected with a link for neutral. If the terminal screws become loose, then it is likely that 2 heating zones will be lost, as each live connection of the original 2 phases feed 2 heating zones.

Thanks for your replies,
The two rings that do not work are both on the left hand side of the hob as you look at it from the front. The temperature indicators are not next to the individual switches for each ring. The five lights are positioned as a small mimic of the ring positions and situated on the top of the hob at the front under the glass.
I will check the terminals to see if that is the problem.
Thanks again
Nick

I have checked the terminals as you suggested and found a lose neutral connection. I have remade the connection and the hob and temperature indicators are now working correctly.
Thank you very much for the advice.
Nick
