ParticipantHi
I have a Smeg Opera A2 Dual electric oven.
Both ovens are fan assisted with only the main oven connected to the clock.
Sunday I changed the clock back an hour and yesterday the main oven cooling fan stopped working
This automatic fan kicks in no matter what setting you use on the oven (fan assisted)
The smaller oven cooling fan still works.
The usual gotcha for this problem is the clock but I was aware of this and so checked everything and even turned the oven off and on at the mains.
There is a setting on the main oven for high powered fan and I tested that this still works.
I know the thermostat works (little red light goes on and off)
So I am left with scratching my head.
So yesterday had to increase the temperature on the lasagne for it to cook properly
Want to fix this before I have to cook the turkey – just my luck that I invited the whole family round for the 25th.Any ideas?
Thanks

Can you confirm it’s just an A2 and not a variant with anything after that as there’s a number of them with different configurations?
The original A2 will be of about 1998 vintage.
On that, there’s at least two variations.
Fun isn’t it? 😉
I suspect though by the sounds of it and, some may chime in here, that it’s one with the cooling fan control board on it, that’s popped and it’s totally obsolete now.

Hi
Thanks for the quick reply
Yes The model is A2 2DA (Rectangle Digital Clock)
Year is around Match 2000
As said before the cooling fan on the aux oven is working
In fact during the 17 years we have owned the range we have only used the main oven less than 100 times.John

That one shouldn’t have the board then.
There’s only one cooling fan so, if it works okay with the small oven then, best guess, the main oven switch is a problem but you’d need to have a look see.
For reference the switch is this one and it has been changed:
