Guess you really need to find out where the chattering is coming from and go from there, could be a duff pcb. Just wire another coil on that dispenser just to make sure. The fist dispenser coil may have done the module in.

all smeg error codes are essentially the same and that is not any of them. Unlikley to be the diverter valve as that would give you an E8. Its a stepper motor and a microswitch so it should be easy enough to ID if the noise is coming from it. IME its only ever the dispenser that makes that chattering noise. The only other source could be the regen valve on the water softner, just take the sides off and run it, it shouldnt be too hard to work out where its coming from.

CHEERS did have the sides off still couldnt make mind up it seemed to be coming from middle area in base..
very strange noise…it sounds like valve chattering may not be a valve ?
sure if someone had fault code i might be able to work prob out..

OI its not a fault code, OK!
It could be a jammed alt valve as that is dead centre.

not had it cause the cycle to stop though, might be overfilling aswell, check the plug on the pressure switch(front rhs)the sometimes burn out.

cheers guys..bit of a head scratcher,
would the salt regen valve be activated at the start of a prog ??..just to recap …
appliance starts as norm..ie fills >drains for 2 mins..then starts to fill (this is when chattering noise starts)>>complete fill wash motor kicks in (noise still in background) >>cycles for about 2 mins then bleeps/stops..
you can then re-select any progs and it will do the same again.

update on this job…went back with diverter valve…and guess whatt
it cured the prob…
so if you get a smeg making a chattering noise whilst filling its likley to be diverter valve
