Hi, I have a Smeg DI612CA9. The machine has a problem with cavitation in the main wash pump.
The problem goes like this:
Select any wash program and shut the door.
The drain pump runs to ensure the sump is clear.
The machine fills with the correct level of water for pre-wash.
The main wash pump starts and pumps for a fraction of a second and then begins to cavitate.
The pre wash cycle completes but no water has circulated.
The drain pump empties the sump.
The machine fills with water for the main wash.
The main wash pump starts and pumps for a fraction of a second and then begins to cavitate.
The main wash cycle completes but no water has circulated.
The drain pump empties the sump.
The machine fills with water for the rinse cycle.
The main wash pump starts and pumps for a fraction of a second and then begins to cavitate.
The rinse cycle completes but no water has circulated.
The drain pump empties the sump.
After the drying period the machine emits the complete signal.
You open the door to find the dishes have not been washed and the detergent tablet is lying near the base of the door.
This can all be overcome if, at the start of each cycle when the wash pump begins to cavitate, you reach under the machine and squeeze the water return pipe between the sump and the was pump. This stops the cavitation and the machine works normally for that cycle.
I have changed the fill level switch and checked for obstruction in the pipes. The air brake chamber looks clear. I am now losing the will to live. Please help if you can.
Thanks, batman890.
