SMEG dishwasher

Arrrghhh!

I bought a stainless steel SMEG dishwasher 2.5 years ago and within the first year we had to get an electronic problem fixed (evidently caused by the water getting into the machine!!!) followed a couple of months ago with the machine breaking down again – this time, according to our engineer, as a result of the “motor shearing off” which would cost us £300 to fix!!

The machine is outside warranty but we feel aggrieved that the machine should fail so catastrophically after just 2.5 years domestic use. To date despite letters to SMEG customer service and their MD we have yet to even receive even an acknowledgement.

I have two questions;

1) can anyone enlighten me as to whether our machine and experience with SMEG is exceptional and whether there is anything more we can do

2) can anyone recommend a good mid-price brand – I have been told AEG & Bosch are pretty good?

On the whole Smeg are generally reliable to be honest, there is the matter of the price though. £300 is not correct even including labour to replace the main circulation motor. Post the model number and I’ll check for you.

Have you tried phoning Smeg as they are normally very good as far as customer service goes ?

Both of those are OK, Bosch being my personal preference.

Circulation motor complete is £165.87 inc VAT, part number 695210370.
