Smeg Dishwasher – DWF 64 SSE. E2 fault diagnostic

Hi – wonder if you can help?

Last week after commencing a program cycle the dishwasher stopped mid-cycle with fault code E2 flashing up (light 1 and 4 lit up). The machine was left with 2 inches of dirty water in the bottom. Having emptied the water out of the machine manually, I’ve checked filter and all pipes for blockage at both dishwasher and sink end. Tried to put the machine through a soak wash. Tried to reset the program to no avail. Any ideas?
When I hold in the Start/Stop button light 3 flashes briefly if that indicates anything?

Be very grateful for any help to avoid engineer call-out.

If you search for “E2 error” you’ll get slews and slews of information on it in the forums. The Diplomat machine is the same thing basically.
