Smeg Dishwasher DWF614SS Error Code E8

I purchased the above from new and is approx. 18 months old and receives fairly light use (2 person household). A couple of months ago the DW emitted a bleep and stopped mid cycle and displayed the E8 error ‘anomaly in the system which distributes water to the basket’.
I did all the usual things checked filters, connections water flow, rotation of arms and everything appeared as it should. I did eventually manage to get the DW to run a cycle again after disconnecting and then reconnected to the water supply via the Aquastop.

Last week the problem has repeated, occasionally the DW would run for a majority of the cycle and then trip to the E8 error. Again I have repeated all the steps as a few months ago but to no avail.
I seems strange that it will run for a while once the Aquastop is re-connected to the water supply. Is it possible the fault lies with the Aquastop/Do they have a history of failing?
I have read through previous posts and have tried to reset the DW but cannot get it to work using the instructions – does this DW have a different reset procedure?

I have investigated replacing the Aquastop, but at seventy quid a chuck, would appreciate any help/suggestions from the forum before following this, or the engineer route.
