Participantsmeg dishwasher model dw17 10E1 shows error code E1 “the dishwasher’s anti-flooding system has been activated (only for models equipped with the TOTAL AQUASTOP device)”
But there isn’t a leak, and I am not convined that this quite ordinary model has total aquastop.
Does anyone have a clue?

Has it got a box on the fill hose at the tap end? If so, you have an aquastop hose.

thanks, penguin. No such box – so I wonder why this error message. Certainly the machine won’t allow any water in, and maybe a fauty inlet valve solenoid would prompt the same error code. Also the pump keeps running for ever, but maybe this too is about the error code.

You say that the machine is not leaking – you have checked the undertray for water? There is a float/diaphragm mechanism in the base, which can be triggered by water lying in the tray OR by the fill matrix sludging up and diverting water to the cut-off circuit. This is a technically complex machine and extensive dismantling is required to fully diagnose the problem.
Probably time for professional help? Click the link below for a repairer in your area. Power off if you are going to investigate further.
As an aside, I attended one of these recently to find that the float mechanism was activated by the body of a late mouse………

Here is the answer that I found, and thanks very much for your help.
I took the front bottom panel off and found that the float switch which presumably controls the drain pump was quite flooded although not enough for any water to drip on the floor. so I dried it with a bit of kitchen roll and the machine was fine.
This must have been causing the leak error code and stopping the inlet valve from working, and causing the pump to run continuously. No idea what the cause was or whether it will return, but the machine has worked fine for 2 weeks now.
very good forum.
