ParticipantHi, I’m pulling my hair out with this one.
Whatever program you set this machine on,it will start for about a min or so then cuts out completely the display too. This only happens for a second or two then comes back into life for another min or so then cuts out again. I’ve checked the dispenser solenoid, tryed reseting it all without success. no fault code appearing either. I’ve also had a look at the pcb can’t see any damage there.
Anyone else had this problem? Any ideas as to what the problem is?
Most grateful for any suggestions.
Thanks.

Not all that familiar with Smeg stuff, but could it be in safety mode ie. won’t fill due to blockage / overfill (think of Hotpoint or Zanussi water valves locked off)? Maybe it tries to fill, senses the alarm situation and shuts down, then tries again,no fill then shut down. Just a thought!!! 😕

Sounds more like power supply breaking down – board fault in effect.

Hi Guys, Thanks for your reply. The machine fills ok and starts to wash, then it starts cutting out, only for a few seconds each time. then starts up again for a few seconds and that’s how it goes. I’ve checked the pcb can’t see anything unusual.

try the very small edge connector on the ribbon cable between the main PCB and the display module ,tension all the teeth with a very thin blade and check that it hasnt moved sideways along the edge of the board ,also check where the wires go into the rast plug edge connectors on the main board.
I had one doing almost the same thing as you and when I pushed the rast plug wires when on it went erratic display .
Also had one where the ribbon wasnt making proper contact.

Silly question. Have you started at the begining and checked the power supply. socket, plugtop, loose fuse, etc.? When the appliance starts to use a bit of current it can make a bad connection fail

Hi, Thankyou both for your suggestions. Iwent back today and tryed what you suggested, without success. It’s still doing the same thing. However, when i tryed it on a soak program (P1) it worked perfectly. This program i notice doesn’t take detergent or requires heat. i removed the plug from the heater to see if the heater maybe causing the problem. that made no difference. perhaps the dispenser solenoid is the problem? I’m a little baffled with this one at the moment. Anyone got any other ideas what this could be? Many thanks.

The most likely problem is the solenoid (which is only available complete with the dispenser) – check continuity between dispenser and the pcb – failing this it could be the pcb itself. PM me for tech info with your email address if you need further assistance.

Hi, Does anyone have a second hand PCB for this machine? I don’t really want to buy one at 108.00 + VAT and it doesn’t cure the problem.
Many thanks.
