KeymasterI’ve got a 5-year old Smeg 45cm wide dishwasher…
It’s quite basic… with a small rotating click-wheel to set the wash
programme.There is NO LCD display.
My problem is the wash cycle sticks – so if I left it unattended it would whir away all night.
Anyone help me with why it might stick…?
If I physically turn the programme wheel myself, to the next click, it drains ok. I’m not sure but I suspect that it’s also not heating the element during the cycle.

You can soon find out whether it’s heating or not – after about 15 mins at the point at which it sticks, open the door slightly and steam should billow forth.
If it doesn’t, there may be a number of causes – element failure, safety stat tripped (usually caused by machine underfilling), burnt-out/broken wiring in the door amongst the more common causes.
The model number of the machine would help us give more exact information – check for a label around the edge of the door.

Oops sorry…
It’s a SMEG DWF44SS.
I think it’s warming up… not sure about getting HOT…
but whichever cycle I put it on, it sticks…June 18, 2005 at 3:20 pm #138853Dave_Conway

We need to know about the heat thing Jon.
If the heater isn’t working for whatever reason it will stick as the programme unit is waiting for a signal from a thermostat telling it “I’m hot enough, please advance”
When it sticks, open the door, if the water is cold then there is the problem normally, then follow Penguin’s advice 😀

ParticipantI think you’re right – it is not heating properly.
Should I call SMEG direct ?
Will it be the element, and are they easy to change?
The “Repairs@” section of this site doesnt offer any engineer near me (Twickenham).
