    Hi

    Hoping for some help.

I have a free standing Smeg A2 double oven. Last week about 10 mins after the turning on the main fan oven I noticed the clock had gone out and there was possibly a slight burnt smell. I turned it back on again and the clock came up 0.00 briefly and then went blank.

The clock, backlight to the temperature controls and the red light are all not functioning and the oven does not start. The cooling fan does come on when you leave the controls on. Axillary oven also works fine.

The oven was acquired with the house so its at least 5 years old. I had a local applicance man around to have a quick look and he said there was power to the clock/timer unit but was unclear how to proceed and said I should phone Smeg. Does anyone have any idea what might be wrong so I can decide whether to get this repaired or potentially consider getting a new oven

Really appreciate any help on this

Possibly just a faulty safety stat or timer although it does sound like the time which is, in effect, just a big mains switch.

If it’s an original A2 it way older though.

Re: Smeg Double Oven – Main oven not working

Thanks for the advice. I had thought if the timer was at fault both ovens would be dead. Not just the main oven. Replacing the timer looks simple (if not expensive). Any tips on replacing a safety stat?

When turning on the 2nd smaller oven today it tripped the mains. This is the first time this has ever happened (been using the last week fine) and could be unrelated to the original problem.

    Any thoughts appreciated
