ParticipantHi all,
I have had my Smeg DUC08CSS oven for two years and it has worked fine until now.
Today have come to put the main bottom oven on, in convection mode, set to 220’C but no heat was generated after 10 minutes. Normally it is up to temperature in this time.
The fan at the back of the oven was going, the light in the oven was on and the orange indicator light on the front panel near the temperature control was lit.
If you opened the oven door the fan stopped, and closing the door made the fan spin again.
As it is out of warranty I have taken the lid and back off to see if anything obvious was wrong. (I do have electrical experience)
No wires seemed damaged or burnt out. The contacts in the rotating switches look clean.
I measured the resistance across the back of the temperature control, in the off position, it is open circuit. Then as you wind up the temperature the output goes short circuit. There is a single grey wire which looks like a thermo couple coming off, so I assume it regulates temperature just by simply switching the power through these contacts on and off. The short circuit is good because this would immediately put power through to the heating element.
I am not sure where the heating element connections are.
On the rear of the oven towards the bottom near the centre I have measure 30R and 50R across two sets of of contacts. This would be a reasonable resistance for a heating element, but I don’t know if I have the correct contacts. So I can’t see anything obvious, any help with this would be great. (I can’t go to the chippy every night 🙂

Classic fan oven element failure by the sounds of it.
Should be this fan element that you need.

Hi K,
Yep spot on, the element was the fault.
Had someone to look at our oven who diagnosed the problem, and fitted a Whirlpool ELE2075 fan oven element.
Oven is back up and running again.
Thanks for the link to the Smeg element, hopefully other people will find the info useful.
Cheers
