SMEG DWF 1 Capacitor exploded

About 6 months ago, my dishwasher started to emit loud cracking and popping noises mid cycle. We got a man out and he showed us a rather large capacitor that had literally blown itself to pieces. The capacitor was changed and we have had no problems until a couple of days ago when the cracking and popping noises started again.

The repair man said that the capacitor shouldn’t have failed in the first place so for it seemingly to have failed again so soon, is this indicative of a different problem?

I have ordered a new capacitor to change in the meantime. I have ordered part number 811770337. Is this correct for this model?

Finally, can you tell me where the capacitor is located so that I may change it myself. I have taken the front cover off but cannot see where the capacitor is. Should have paid more attention when the repair man was here!

Firstly capacitors like any other component can breakdown.
Secondly, you need to confirm if it is the same capacitor at fault, or could it perhaps be the mains suppressor unit which can eminate same noises when that fails.

Power off before attempting any repair :plug:

Thanks Greg. I guess I still need to locate the capacitor to see whether it has blown or not.

Do you know where it’s located within the machine?

There should be one on or around the motor and the mains supressor on the back.

Power off and if you’re not sure pea-eye I’d strongly suggest an engineer, bear in mind that capacitors and supressors can retain a charge, even after powering down, so be very careful!
