    Hi all

I have a smeg DWF 44 SS.1. It is ill, so we had an engineer round this morning who said after a rather brief inspection that the main circulation motor is not working. He apparently can turn it with his fingers, so says it is not jammed and is broke and I need a new motor.

Problem: I am in France, and for dishwashers bought in the UK spares are not easy to find.

I have seen one on the internet for £150 😯

Is there anything else I can do?

    thanks for any help

    Andy

That’s correct I’m afraid, the price is £130.94 inc VAT (less carriage which would be quite high to be shipped to France from the UK due to it’s weight).

I would rule out the motor start capacitor first though (or ask the engineer to) 😉

    Thanks for your help Dave.

OK, so I have managed to disassemble the dishwasher by taking the top, sides, front, back and bottom off (are all dishwashers this complicated to take to bits ❓ ), and from there I have access to the motor etc. This, by the way, is further than the engineer went.

Attached to the motor is what looks very much to me like a capacitor, about 2 inches in length and an inch in diameter, white in colour. It looks very normal with no outwards signs of being ill. Can I test it somehow (I do have a multimeter type thing available), or is the only way of confirming to change it for a new one?

If the only way to be sure is to have a new one, is this a stock item that could be posted quickly? I have family flying out on Saturday so if it could be posted to them, I could save on postage and have it for the weekend 🙂 7 people in the house with no dishwasher is not what I want to endure!!

    Yep, that’s the one.

There is no sure way of testing them accurately without a capacitance meter to be honest, they are very reasonable though. Yours will have a value on it shown in uf, you can see them here:

    http://www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/modules.p … Path=58_91

If you’re value isn’t shown, let me know and I can easily get one but I’ll need to know by tommorow lunchtime at the latest to get it to a UK address by Friday.

There is no guarantee that it will work of course but fingers crossed.

Don’t forget, power off when working on it :zap:

    OK, so mine’s a 6uF, +/- 5{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d}. Can I assume that the universal 6.3uF would be OK? (as 6.0 + 5{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} = 6.3)

If this works I shall be very 😀 😀 😀

Just today the water pump has gone on the car, so I can’t afford to change the dishwasher as well!

    Thanks for your help, Dave!

Re: Smeg DWF 44 SS.1 motor

If you order the 6.3uf, make a note in the message box about yours being a 6uf and I’ll send one of those instead, although a 6.3uf would be fine it’s on the edge of the tollerance level 🙂
